The Pantry

We have a pantry that lands between our basement steps on the left and our stairs going up to the second story on the right… It’s very Harry Pottery. And I wish I hadn’t forgotten to take before photos because there also weren’t any photos of this tiny space in any of the listings of our house. Essentially it was musty, smelly – covered in weird sticky moist residue and old wallpaper. The shelves were all rigged together improperly, and the space really wasn’t even properly utilized.

Here’s what we did.

Ripped out what was damaged and re-dry walled a few spots, mudded and painted the pantry a nice dark gray.

Stained lots of sticks with dark walnut (flat 9″ boards and then I wanted the shelves to have a little somthin’ so we put 2″ trim backs on all of them for some lip)

Bought the Rubbermaid shelving kit (the old school ones, but in satin nickel)

Built in some shelf supports to the wall area where the shelving kits couldn’t go – lined everything up and pulled it all together.

Now I have an appliance hide-away where our microwave and various countertop appliances are out of the way.

The only thing left is there is a HUGE vent coming up through the floor inside this pantry that we need to relocate. Once this is relocated, we’ll lay down something to create a nice flat surface and – I purchased enough peel and stick floor tiles to go down in here that will lighten up the floor and finish it off completely.

We’re also going to invest in a new pantry door that will give it a more polished look from inside our kitchen.
